View from the fortress of Cidade Velha (Real Fortaleza de São Filipe) up the Ribeira Grande in N direction. This valley was deeply incised into the volcanic layers by fluvial erosion. Pico d'Antonia (1394 m), the highest mountain of Santiago, can be seen in the very left background.
