Matter Valley with Ritigraben

WI_ch019_521.jpg

View from Jungen in SE direction. The Ritigraben represents a very active and intensively researched debris flow channel. Debris flows mostly originate from the unstable front of a rock glacier between 2500 m and 2600 m asl. and reach the Matter Valley at approx. 1050 m asl., just downstream from the recycling plant of St. Niklaus, which has been damaged in the past by temporary backwater impounded behind debris flow deposits.
