View from the summit area of Dobratsch in W direction up the Gail Valley. This longitudinal valley follows the Periadriatic Seam, an important tectonic line separating the Southern Alps (here, the Carnian Alps on the left side of the photo) from the rest of the Alps (here, the Gailtal Alps on the right side). The Gailtal Alps belong to the Northern Calcareous Alps from a geological point of view, having remained in place while the rest of this unit was transported in N-ward direction.
