The Pasterze, one of Austria's largest glaciers, has experienced massive recession during the last few decades, as indicated by this board, showing the position of the terminus in 1990. The proglacial lake behind formed in the 2010s in the area formerly covered by the ice. Johannisberg (3453 m) is shown in the central background of the picture.
