Forest of Pinus pinaster growing on the peridotite of the Pico de los Reales at approx. 1300 m asl. The Sierra Bermeja represents the largest outcrop of ultrabasic rocks in the W part of Europe. These rocks formed in the Earth's mantle, were uplifted in the course of subduction, and came to the surface as the overlying rocks were eroded.
