The Alhambra represents a complex of palaces and fortresses. The Palacio de Carlos V, with its round courtyard, was built in the 16th century in Renaissance style, in sharp contrast to the earlier Moorish fortress and palaces. The entire ensemble has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984.
