View from a mountainside near the ranger station of Dreki in northeastern direction. The bright surface in the foreground reminds of the 1875 eruption of the volcanic system Askja, with widespread pumice falls. The 1682 m high snow-capped Herðubreið in the left background represents a tuya (table volcano) rising approx. 1000 m above the surrounding lava field Ódáðahraun. Known as the Queen of mountains, it formed beneath a huge Pleistocene ice cap.
