Steinholtsdalur | Landslide deposit

WI_is054.jpg

In 1967, a rock slide occurred upstream from this scene. It impacted the tongue of Steinholtsjökull. The resulting avalanche of rock and entrained ice led to the drainage of a former proglacial lake. The hummocky surface represents the landslide deposit in the former lake area.
