View from Lavigerie in SW direction to part of the snow-covered remnants of an ancient stratovolcano, which is said to be the largest of Europe. It was active between 13 and 2 million years ago. Volcanism in this area was related to the European Cenozoic Rift System. The summit of Puy de Peyre Arse (1806 m) appears in the right central background of the photo, whereas the villages in the glacially shaped valley are La Gravière and La Courbatière.
