Hvolsvöllur and Hekla

View in northeastern direction over the village of Hvolsvöllur in the foreground. The 1491 m high stratovolcano Hekla in the background represents one of the most active volcanoes of Iceland. It has produced approx. eight cubic kilometres of lava and five cubic kilometres of tephra during the last millennium.
