The debris cone dominating this photo dates back to 1952. It is the result of a glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) of Laguna Milluacocha, impounded by the now breached moraine ridge behind the cone. Since then, the lake has redeveloped to a much larger size - however, at a lower level - due to the retreat of the parent glacier. The camp site near Refugio Ishinca appears in the foreground of the image.
