Quebrada Hualcán | GLOF deposit

WI_pe038_401.jpg

These boulders go back to a glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) in 2010, when an ice avalanche from the slope of Nevado Hualcán (poorly visible in the left background of the scene) led to overtopping of Laguna 513 and a subsequent debris flow. The distal flood also caused some damage in the valley all the way down to the town of Carhuaz.
