View in southeastern direction across the Bosphorus to the Asian part of Istanbul in the background. The first crossing of Bosphorus, with a main span of 1074 m, has connected Europe and Asia since 1973. Its official name is 15 July Martyrs Bridge. Four more Bosphorus crossings (bridges and tunnels for road and railway) have been completed by 2017 in order to ease the inter-continental traffic.
