View from London Eye across the River Thames in southwestern direction, Westminster Bridge in the foreground. The Palace of Westminster with its three towers was constructed from 1840 to 1870 in the Gothic Revival style after the medieval palace had been destroyed by a fire in 1834. It hosts both houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom and is therefore widely known as Houses of Parliament.
