View from the slopes of the Cordillera Negra to the highest tropical mountain worldwide (6768 m). The steep face of the lower N summit was the source of two catastrophic debris avalanches: in 1962, the area of Ranrahirca (lower right portion) was badly affected. In 1970, part of the avalanche even jumped over a hill and destroyed the town of Yungay. The rebuilt town, Nueva Yungay, is visible near the left edge next to the site of the former town, Campo Santo.
